Gunnison Valley Health
Director of Nursing, Senior Care Center
Position: Vice President of Perioperative Services
Location: Lynchburg, Virginia
Centra is a regional nonprofit healthcare system based in Lynchburg, Virginia that was created in 1987 through the merger of Lynchburg General Hospital (LGH) and Virginia Baptist Hospital (VBH). In 2006, Southside Community Hospital in Farmville joined Centra as an affiliate, and in 2014, Bedford Memorial Hospital in Bedford became the system's fourth hospital. With more than 8,500 employees, 400 employed providers and physicians, and a medical staff of nearly 800, Centra serves over 500,000 people across 8,000 square miles in central and southern Virginia, providing care in 70 locations.
Centra has a long tradition of learning and teaching, beginning with the founding of its nursing school in 1912 and continuing with the Lynchburg Family Medicine residency program in 1975. Each year, Centra healthcare professionals and members of central Virginia's extended medical community help mentor and train hundreds of medical learners and allied health professionals. Unlike a traditional teaching hospital, Centra offers an innovative approach to medical and allied healthcare education, building precepting models geared towards interprofessional teams in acute and primary care settings.
The mission of Centra health is to provide excellent care for life, and its vision is to be the most trusted provider of innovative health care. In pursuit of these aims, the organization espouses core values of integrity and respect, a drive for excellence, teamwork, and patient-centeredness.
The vice president of perioperative services will provide leadership, direction, and oversight for Centra Health's operating rooms and peri-anesthesia, pre-anesthesia testing, and sterile processing departments. This role reports to the senior vice president/chief operating officer and works closely with senior leadership at Centra to meet the goals and objectives of the health system. As a key member of the leadership team, the VP must bring credibility, drive, enthusiasm, and passion to the organization, and must support its mission and embody its core values.
The VP is responsible for ensuring the successful performance of each unit/entity, which includes the efficient delivery of services, quality and regulatory oversight, and financial performance. In addition to collaborating with the surgeon-in-chief and serving as the most senior-level liaison with the Centra Medical Group for Perioperative Services, the VP will partner with the clinical department leadership of Surgery, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Ob/Gyn, and Anesthesia to ensure quality, access, and value across all Centra Health surgical sites.
