Position: Chief Marketing Officer

Dedicated to its mission of creating meaningful change in health care, the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) represents more than 12,500 organizations of all sizes, types, structures, and specialties that deliver almost half of the health care in the United States. With a membership of more than 40,000 medical practice leaders, the MGMA is known for empowering its members and the community by offering cutting-edge resources and solutions that include, but are not limited to: expertly compiled benchmarking data and statistics; consulting and advisory services; educational collateral and certifications; networking events and annual conferences; etc. Thoughtfully organized into four verticals (i.e., Association (and Government Affairs); Operations; Business Intelligence; and Industry Insights), the MGMA's structure was design to facilitate business accountability, audience reach and impact, data-driven decision making, and top performance outcomes. Annually, the MGMA generates close to $30 million in total revenue; the goal is to reach $50 million by 2022.

Job Description:

The Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) reports directly to the president and CEO and is accountable for the successful leadership and advancement of the MGMA's Marketing, Sales, and Communications departments and the team members included therein. Direct reports to the CMO include:

  • Director, Marketing (newly created; to be recruited)
  • Director, National Sales (Business Intelligence vertical)
  • Director, National Business Development (Industry Insights vertical)
  • Director, National Business Development - Organizational Membership (Association vertical)
  • Assistant Director, Public Relations

The CMO provides direct administrative, budgetary, and strategic oversight of the aforementioned departments, with the ultimate goal of advancing the MGMA's mission and advocacy efforts, generating community engagement, enhancing member and customer experience, achieving strategic objectives and fiscal goals, and increasing brand awareness. As the executive responsible for the development and deployment of all marketing, sales, and communications-related initiatives, a fundamental component of the CMO's position is serving as a strategic business partner to the leadership of MGMA's four verticals (i.e., Association (and Government Affairs), Operations, Business Intelligence, and Industry Insights). The CMO must work closely with his/her counterparts to create thoughtful marketing, sales, and communications approaches unique to each division's needs. To ensure the effectiveness and success of these efforts, the CMO must rely on and routinely utilize analytics to make well-informed assessments and data-supported action plans. Qualifications:


Experience: Minimum of 10-15 years of marketing, sales, and communications experience in a complex business environment, preferably within the healthcare industry; plus, a minimum of 5 years' experience in a senior, strategic role with team-member oversight

Education: MBA or related field required
