Kona Community Hospital is a 94-bed, full-service, acute care hospital with 24-hour emergency services that has proudly served the West Hawaii community for over 100 years. Kona's staff includes over 400 highly skilled employees and 100 medical staff practitioners, many of whom have been with the hospital for over 20 years, and the hospital is one of the largest employers in West Hawaii. The hospital has been awarded the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce Pualu Business Innovation Award as the "Best Hospital in West Hawaii," the American Heart Association's Silver Performance Award in Heart Failure, and a third-place ranking in HMSA's HQSR Heart Program; it was also the first hospital on the Big Island to begin the Level III Trauma Center designation process on January 1, 2010. Kona is a private, public benefit healthcare facility accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations, and is part of the West Hawaii Region of Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, along with the 28-bed Kohala Hospital (six critical access beds and 22 long-term care beds).

Job Description:

The assistant hospital administrator/chief nurse executive position sits within the Patient Care Services Section of Kona Community Hospital, the function of which is the supervision and administration of all nursing functions and other departments or functions as assigned. The primary purpose of this position is the executive leadership and ongoing management of patient care and nursing services at Kona Community Hospital, which includes planning; healthcare quality; the allocation and management of financial, physical, and human resources; compliance with regulatory requirements and accrediting standards; influencing legislation and regulation; promotion of the hospital; and emergency planning. The CNE serves as a member of the executive management team of Hawaii Health Systems Corporation's West Hawaii Region, a capacity in which he or she is charged with monitoring, advising, and, if necessary, supervising patient care and nursing services for the West Hawaii Region. The CNE reports to the chief executive officer of the West Hawaii Region, and supervises all clinical departments, as well as education, social services, utilization review, and case management.
