First Step of Sarasota was founded in 1967 and serves as a non-profit organization and renamed First Step. First Step of Sarasota has continued to grow since its inception and has added detox, outpatient, and residential programs to their organization. Additionally, In July of 2019, First Step of Sarasota and Coastal Behavioral Healthcare, Inc. announced a strategic unification of resources to better serve the community. Today, First Step of Sarasota consists of 4 Inpatient/Residential Campuses, 7 outpatient offices and additional sites providing addiction recovery programs and behavioral health service in Sarasota County, DeSoto County, Charlotte and Manatee County. First Step is licensed by the State of Florida and accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
The president and chief executive officer plans and executes all aspects of First Step of Sarasota's operations and is responsible for the overall effectiveness of the organization. He or she will maximize all external relationships with government, partner organizations, foundations, funding sources, professional groups, and the community at large, and serve as the visible spokesperson for the agency. The CEO's activities should follow the agency's mission and strategic plan, and be executed in a manner that reflects stewardship of the agency's resources.
The appropriate candidate for this position will possess ten years of progressive and relevant senior management experience in the non-profit human service sector and a results-driven leader who inspires confidence internally and externally, knows how to lead, empowers others, and nurtures talent. Additionally, he or she will have a strong executive presence and articulate communication style in order to deliver messages with confidence and authority both internally and externally of the organization.
