Sanford Health is an integrated health system headquartered in the Dakotas. It is the largest rural, not-for-profit healthcare system in the nation, with 45 hospitals, 289 clinics, and 48 long-term care facilities in nine states and three countries. Nearly $1 billion in gifts from philanthropist Denny Sanford have allowed for several initiatives, including global children's clinics, genomic medicine, and specialized centers researching cures for type 1 diabetes, breast cancer, and other diseases. The health system has a strong academic program for students and professionals at all levels, and centers of excellence in cancer, children's services, heart care, orthopedics/sports medicine, and women's health. In addition, it supports an international initiative designed to provide communities around the world with permanent, sustainable healthcare infrastructure.
The vice president of government relations is responsible for developing Sanford Health's organizational strategy for policy, advocacy, and policy-related programming, in close collaboration with executive leadership. In addition to leading the process to develop and maintain a formal posture for federal and state public policy plans and collaboratively determining organizational advocacy and policy priorities, the vice president will lead the development of annual work planning, design, implementation, and reporting related to these activities. He or she will develop working relationship with key leaders and policy makers, and will prepare and disseminate policy analyses, recommendations, policy briefs, and assessments to audiences at the national and state levels. The vice president will represent Sanford Health in Washington, D.C. as a strong voice for health care, and will oversee an integrated public policy program that monitors and responds to current and emerging trends in U.S. legislative and regulatory actions that affect healthcare policies. He or she will support outreach events to highlight initiatives, which may include public speaking, and will complement the efforts of the leadership team in establishing robust communication among other organizations to ensure an informed and coordinated response to policies and an increased engagement in advocacy.
