Raleigh Campus is WakeMed's flagship facility, a tertiary referral center and leading provider of advanced health care services. It is the main hub for highly acclaimed services including: a children's hospital, children's ER, 24/7 Emergency Department, critical care, a comprehensive heart center, neurosciences, nutrition and diabetes, advanced pregnancy and childbirth services, Neonatal Intensive Care, a 98-bed rehab hospital, a Level I Trauma Center, a Chest Pain Center, and Stroke Centers. Raleigh Campus also features some of the most advanced pathology laboratories, imaging technology, and surgical technology available. Raleigh Campus comprises 567 acute beds and is served by over 6,000 employees and 1,200 medical staff members.

With the resources of the system behind all efforts, the VP Nursing will coordinate nursing care efforts of the Cary and North Hospitals. WakeMed Cary Hospital is a 178-bed, full-service community hospital that provides care to the citizens of Cary, Apex, Morrisville, Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina, and surrounding communities in southern and western Wake County and beyond. Construction is underway to add Floors 4 West and 5 West to WakeMed Cary, a $60 million project that will add 102,000 square feet and 40 patient rooms designed based on feedback from physicians, nurses, support care team members, and patients/families, along with clinical care team areas that offer the opportunity for more collaboration by the entire multi-disciplinary care team in flexible space. The anticipated completion of the West vertical expansion construction project is Spring 2021.

WakeMed Cary is served by more than 1,100 employees, 800 physicians, and 425 registered nurses and nurse technicians. It is Magnet-designated and is one of only 30% of hospitals nationwide to receive the highest grade possible in patient safety from Leapfrog.

WakeMed North Hospital is operated by WakeMed Raleigh Campus and is a 61-bed, full-service hospital. The only women's hospital in Wake County, WakeMed North features a tranquil luxury atmosphere surrounded by features that promote healing while conserving nature's resources.

WakeMed North is served by almost 400 employees, while its medical staff members are counted among those of WakeMed Raleigh campus.

Job Description:

WakeMed Health & Hospitals, a 941-bed health system located in Raleigh, North Carolina, is searching for a proven, practice excellence-focused nursing executive to join its leadership team as the vice president of nursing for community hospitals. This is an exceptional opportunity for an accomplished patient- and family-centered nurse leader to play a key role in the ongoing success of a fiscally sound, mission-driven healthcare organization in a growing and vibrant community.

The Vice President is responsible for planning, facilitating, coordinating, and evaluating nursing and patient care services, personnel, and budgetary processes to ensure the highest-quality, safest care at the 178-bed Cary Hospital and 61-bed North Hospital locations.

Reporting to the senior vice president and chief nursing officer, the VP will work in a triad partnership with the senior vice president and administrator for community hospitals, and the hospital chief medical officers to accomplish facility goals in alignment with system strategic priorities and plans. Committed to evidence-based practice and improving patient and family engagement, this senior leader will create and nurture a work environment that engages staff through shared decision-making principles, elevating quality and safety, promoting healthy work environment attributes, and celebrating success at all levels.

The VP must be a highly engaged and visible nursing leader driven to mentor, develop, and build strong, accountable nursing staff and leaders and interprofessional teams. The successful candidate will be a collaborative, empowering, results-oriented leader who models and champions the patient experience and sets the bar for the highest level of clinical nursing and respiratory excellence.

A member of the System Nurse Executive Committee, the VP serves on numerous system-driven councils, committees, and task forces. He or she will support WakeMed's unique and talented workforce by embracing AACN standards for a healthy work environment, promoting the ANA Code of Ethics, and utilizing the ANA Nursing Administration standards of practice to understand and respond to the needs of the organization.

Requirements:
The successful candidate will be RN credentialed, have national nursing certification and a Master's degree in Nursing as well as a minimum of 5 years of executive level nursing experience at the VP or CNO level at a minimum 250-bed facility with clinical practice oversight.
