Previously, Sonya served as regional director of talent acquisition for Methodist Healthcare System in San Antonio; as an RPO talent acquisition consultant; and as a recruiting manager for Spherion RPO, through which she supported Honeywell's aerospace division. Sonya began her career in legal staffing. She holds a bachelor's degree in advertising from The University of Texas at Austin.

Sonya and her husband are the parents of two teenaged children.

QLK's Jake Barto and Mike Quick led the search to recruit Sonya to Inova, where her duties will begin on November 29, 2021.
