Joseph Kuruc was placed as the vice president of internal audit for the Jackson Health System in Miami, Florida. Jackson Health System is a nonprofit academic medical system governed by the Public Health Trust on behalf of the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners. It is an integrated healthcare delivery system that consists of the flagship Jackson Memorial Hospital, as well as multiple primary care and specialty care centers, two long-term care nursing facilities, six Corrections Health Services clinics, a network of mental health facilities, Holtz Children’s Hospital, Jackson Rehabilitation Hospital, Jackson Behavioral Health Hospital, Jackson North Medical Center, and Jackson South Community Hospital. The health system is served by over 2,000 physicians and approximately 10,000 employees, and encompasses a total of over 2,100 licensed beds.
Joe brings to the position experience in a variety of healthcare environments, as well as for-profit organizations. He has had success in resurrecting audit programs and establishing the internal audit function as a strategic partner to an organization, and has been heavily involved in the creation of programs and policies for compliance, enterprise risk management, fraud, and internal controls.
Before joining Jackson Health System, Joe served as the corporate vice president of internal audit services for University Hospitals Health System in Cleveland, Ohio, which included 11 medical centers, two partnership medical centers, an extended care facility, ambulatory care facilities, physician practices and for-profit corporations, with over 24,000 physicians and employees. In that capacity, Joe was a trusted advisor to the board regarding the performance of audits, and also played an instrumental role in establishing UH’s enterprise risk management program.
Previously, Joe served as the vice president of audit and compliance at Alexian Brothers Health System in Illinois. He began his career as a director of internal audit for a variety of healthcare organizations in the Chicagoland area, as well as in audit consulting with Nicor Gas and Jefferson Wells International.
Joe is originally from the Chicago area, where he earned both his bachelor’s degree in accounting and his MBA from DePaul University. He is a certified internal auditor and a certified fraud examiner. Joe and his wife are the parents of five adult children.
