Michael Waldrum, MD has been appointed the president and chief executive officer of Vidant Health in Greenville, North Carolina. Vidant Health is a regional health system serving 29 counties in eastern North Carolina. It is comprised of eight hospitals, as well as physician practices, home health, hospice, wellness centers, and other healthcare services. Vidant Health serves 1.4 million people, and its medical group consists of more than 350 primary and specialty care providers in more than 70 locations. As a major resource for health services and education, Vidant’s goal is to enhance services that are available locally and eliminate the barriers of time, distance, and lack of awareness that sometimes prevent patients from receiving the care they need.
Dr. Waldrum has had significant experience in managing the clinical operations of hospitals and clinics throughout the country, most recently serving as the president and chief executive officer of The University of Arizona Health Network. Prior to that, he was the CEO of the University of Alabama Hospital at Birmingham and vice president of the UAB Health System. He also served as the chief operating officer and chief information officer of the UAB Health System.
Dr. Waldrum received his BA in English from Sewanee-The University of the South in Tennessee, and his medical degree from the University of Alabama Birmingham School of Medicine. He completed his training in internal medicine, and is a board-certified specialist in critical care medicine and pulmonology. Dr. Waldrum also holds an MBA from the University of Michigan.
Dr. Waldrum and his wife are parents to four children and grandparents to one granddaughter.
