Unhee Kim was placed as the president and chief operating officer of St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville, Ohio. St. Ann’s, part of the Mount Carmel Health System, is a 389-bed hospital that is the sole full-service inpatient hospital in northeast central Ohio, providing a high-risk Maternal Fetal Medicine program, an integrated ob/gyn residency program with Ohio State Medical Center, and a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, with more than 4,500 deliveries each year. St. Ann’s is also home to the health system’s family medicine residency program, a fully-integrated cardiovascular center of excellence with open-heart capabilities, an accredited Stroke Center, and an award-winning Network Cancer Program with the region’s only Cyberknife®.
Unhee brings to the position proven success in turnarounds, expanding market footprint, strategic planning, joint venture development, operations, and financial improvement. She is a highly motivated and accomplished senior healthcare executive with experience in hospital and system leadership, service line management, and strategic business development.
Before joining St. Ann’s, Unhee served as the senior vice president of ambulatory services for Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio. In this capacity, she led the ambulatory strategy for the health system, including programs, services, and physician placements for all existing and future ambulatory health centers and satellite locations in nine markets, with a staff of 2,000. Unhee contributed to a 5.7% improvement in operating margins and drove a $4 million performance improvement in six months’ time. She was also operationally responsible for Summa Physicians, Inc., a multispecialty group that included 300 physicians, 80 mid-level providers, and over 1,000 staff members, as well as for the Cardiovascular Institute, the Cancer Institute, imaging services, hospital-based clinics, and the Summa Wellness Institute.
Previously, Unhee served as the system vice president for service lines and ancillary services and as the system vice president for clinical services at Summa. Also within the Summa system, Unhee served as the vice president of operations and chief nursing officer for Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital and as the president of Aris Teleradiology. She began her career with University Hospitals of Cleveland as a nurse, progressing to the role of vice president of operations and nursing for the organization’s multi-specialty group practice.
Unhee is originally from Ohio, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Akron and her MBA from Cleveland State University. She is certified in Lean and as an Advanced Nurse Executive, and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American Organization of Nurse Executives. Unhee and her husband are the parents of one college-age son.
