Eric Rhodes was placed as the senior vice president of professional and administrative services for Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. Mercy is a comprehensive network that includes a 479-bed hospital with a Level II trauma center, as well as the Mercy Family Health Center, 11 ambulatory care facilities, MercyWORKS occupational health program, two school-based health centers, a medical group, an ACO, and teaching affiliations with the University of Chicago and the University of Illinois at Chicago. In his position, Eric provides administrative oversight for the planning, direction, coordination, and control of the overall operations, professional, and support services of the organization, developing strategy and implementing programs and processes according to established goals and objectives.
Eric brings to the position executive management experience in operations, budget construction and oversight, compliance, and multi-division productivity. He is a results-oriented, decisive leader with proven success in healthcare management for multiple acute care and multidisciplinary hospitals and a track record of regulatory compliance, increasing productivity while decreasing costs, continuous quality improvement, and successful completion of numerous construction and renovation projects.
Before joining Mercy, Eric served as the regional chief ambulatory care and ancillary services officer for Presence Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, Illinois and Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, Illinois, two acute care hospitals with a total bed count of 477 and a total annual operating budget of over $313 million. In this capacity, Eric established and led strategic initiatives and core operations for hospital departments, with full responsibility for financial performance and expense control, growth and system/regional strategic alignment, productivity, patient satisfaction, operations efficiency, capital prioritization and oversight, executive construction oversight, and regulatory compliance. He successfully implemented population health initiatives that led to cost savings and greater patient access, as well as identifying and leading other breakthrough initiative projects, such as scheduling centralization, cardiovascular risk stratification, and medication reconciliation.
Eric spent over seven years with Presence Health, serving within various facilities in increasingly-responsible operations and project management roles. He also spent a brief time at St. Bernard Hospital in Chicago as a director of facility operations. Eric began his career as a contract and project manager for Cleveland VA Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio.
Eric is originally from southern West Virginia. He earned both his bachelor’s degree in business management and his Master of Health Services Administration from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the National Association of Healthcare Service Executives. Outside of work, Eric enjoys spending time with his family and staying physically fit, and is an avid sports fan. He and his wife are the parents of two young children.
