Kirk Larson was placed as the senior vice president and associate chief information officer for Rochester Regional Health in Rochester, New York. Rochester Regional is an integrated health services organization providing care in 150 locations, including five hospitals; more than 100 primary and specialty practices, rehabilitation centers, and ambulatory campuses; innovative senior services, facilities, and independent housing; a wide range of behavioral health services; and ACM Medical Laboratory, a global leader in patient and clinical trials. The health system’s more than 16,000 employees make it the second-largest private sector employer in the Rochester area, with total revenue of nearly $2 billion, and it was named one of “America’s Best Employers” by Forbes in 2015. Kirk serves as the “chief operating officer” for information systems and technology throughout the enterprise, with responsibility for system-wide initiatives in the areas of technology applications, special projects, and infrastructure, and, more specifically, for the efficient implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of information and communication systems for RRH, including voice and data communications networks, information systems, business and clinical applications, and other related technologies. As a member of the senior management team, Kirk implements plans that maximize the use of information technology in support of corporate business objectives.
Kirk brings to the position a variety of high-level IS&T experience as both a consultant and CIO, with excellent project management skills. In over six years as a CIO, he has spearheaded multiple projects leading to efficient operations, cost savings, and higher quality outcomes in two healthcare systems. Kirk is also a national speaker on information technology and healthcare topics.
Before joining Rochester, Kirk served as the healthcare chief information officer for the North American and Latin American markets of NetApp, Inc., a Fortune 500 company that provides data management and warehousing worldwide, with a robust healthcare practice. NetApp has annual revenue of approximately $6.2 billion, and a total of 13,000 employees. There, Kirk worked with hospital and health system CIOs and other senior executives throughout the U.S. and Latin America, focusing on HIE and analytics data management and storage. His role was that of consultant and advisor, enabling his clients to find the best solutions for their needs related to data warehousing. He also led the healthcare channel partner program for NetApp, which generated $250 million per year, and served as a spokesperson for the company.
Previously, Kirk served as the chief information officer of Valley Children’s Healthcare in Madera, California, and of Natividad Medical Center in Salinas, California. He also served in a variety of positions with Cerner Corporation in the areas of business development strategy, business office management, service and support, and healthcare consulting. Kirk began his career with Arthur Andersen as a technology consultant.
Kirk is originally from Chicago. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, and earned his Master of Health Services Administration degree and MBA in finance and corporate strategy from the University of Michigan. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, a member of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives and of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, and a guest columnist with The Wall Street Journal. Kirk and his wife are the parents of a young son. Outside of work, Kirk enjoys outdoor activities, photography, sports, and travel.
