John Konicek was placed as the executive director of compensation and benefits at Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin Health Network. The network includes more than 2,000 physicians across 25 primary and specialty clinical locations, representing the collaboration of Wisconsin’s largest multispecialty physician practice with a community-based physician group. Its three hospitals (including eastern Wisconsin’s only academic medical center) total 784 staffed beds, with nearly 40,000 annual admissions, over 104,600 emergency visits, and more than 900,000 annual outpatient visits, and network physicians log more than 700,000 annual patient visits at health centers and clinics. As an integrated delivery system, the network is part of joint ventures with laboratory services, home care and hospice, employer services, digital health services, and insurance products, and is a founding member of an accountable care strategy. Reporting to the senior vice president and chief human resources officer, John directs the design, planning, and execution of programs and services that reflect a total compensation philosophy and marketing approach in support of the organization’s HR strategy and its overall strategic and operational goals.
John brings to the position a well-rounded HR background, with a strong foundation as a generalist. His previous position represents over 20 years of compensation and benefits experience within a progressive and growing organization, and a strong track record of success in the evolution of an HR department.
Before joining Froedtert, John served as the executive director of total rewards at Cone Health in Greensboro, North Carolina. Part of the Carolinas HealthCare System, Cone includes six hospitals with a total of approximately 1,300 beds and just over 11,000 employees. During his 20-year tenure there, John was part of significant organizational growth and the evolution of a shared service and centralized HR function, and he developed the organization’s first-ever wellness program.
Previously, John served as the vice president of human resources for Ministry St. Mary’s and Sacred Heart Hospitals in Wisconsin, and for the Bon Secours Kentucky Health System. He began his career as the assistant director of human resources for CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital in Texas.
John is originally from Wisconsin, where he completed his bachelor’s degree in psychology at Viterbo University; he subsequently completed a master’s degree in industrial and organizational psychology at Lamar University in Texas. John and his wife are the parents of four grown children. Outside of work, John enjoys running marathons, music, and being involved with his church.
