Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center

Matthew Peddie was placed as the chief information officer of Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in Suffolk County, New York, a 321-bed not-for-profit community hospital that is part of a multidisciplinary, multi-campus, state-of-the-art healthcare complex designed to meet the evolving needs of the county’s 28 communities. Brookhaven is home to a Level II Trauma Center/Emergency Room, and was first in the county to establish a certified home health care department, a hospice, and an outpatient hemodialysis unit. The medical center is a leader in health education throughout the community, and logs more than 17,000 admissions and 70,000 emergency room visits each year. Brookhaven also prides itself on being on the cutting edge of healthcare information technology, and has successfully completed Meaningful Use Stage 2. In his role, Matt is responsible for all information and communication systems for the medical center network, including voice and data communications networks, information systems, business and clinical applications, and other related technologies, and is charged with the planning, development, and continuous enhancement of all network systems. As a member of the senior management team, Matt formulates plans that maximize the use of information technology in support of corporate business objectives, and is accountable for creating swift, efficient processes for the collection of data from Brookhaven’s information systems.

Matt is a customer-facing, business-savvy, strategic-minded executive that brings to the position experience leading technology operations in a large, integrated health system. Before joining Brookhaven, he served as the assistant vice president for IT service management at Barnabas Health in West Orange, New Jersey, the state’s largest integrated healthcare delivery system, caring for more than two million patients each year. In this position, Matt managed a 45-member IT services team across the system, and was responsible for providing strategy, vision, oversight, and support, while constantly improving day-to-day operations and facilitating growth initiatives. He played a key role in transforming IT to a shared services model, and was directly responsible for the centralization of all local IT&S departments. Matt designed, implemented, and staffed the Command Centers that supported seven successful Enterprise Clinical Information System “go lives,” and his team implemented an enterprise-wide online system access request form used for over 10,000 requests annually.

Previously, Matt spent eight years in progressively-responsible positions, from radiology information system manager to CIO, with Saint Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center; as a system analyst at Hackensack University Medical Center; and as a system analyst with Saint Barnabas Medical Center. He began his career in support services and materials management at Saint Barnabas Medical Center.

Matt completed his bachelor’s degree in public health administration at Rutgers University, and his MBA in business management and information technology at Saint Peter’s College in Jersey City, New Jersey. He is a HIMSS Certified Professional in Health Information Management and Systems. Matt and his wife are the parents of two teenage daughters, and Matt is an avid sports fan.
