Frank Sawyer was placed as the senior vice president of operations at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland in Pontiac, Michigan. The hospital is part of the five-hospital Saint Joseph Mercy Health System in Michigan, which has been recognized among the “Top 10 Best Performing Hospitals” in the nation. In his role, Frank is accountable for the effective leadership and management of the delivery of health care services at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland, with the goal of achieving financial, quality and safety, patient experience, and other strategic initiatives. He provides administrative oversight for planning, directing, coordinating, and controlling overall operations and professional/support services of the organization, and participates in the development and implementation of short-term and long-range goals, objectives, and operational plans that will enable the hospital and region to successfully carry out its strategic plans. Frank works collaboratively with medical staff leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective patient care.
Prior to joining St. Joseph Mercy, Frank served as the vice president of service integration for the oncology service line of Premier Health, a medical network of five hospitals and two major health centers in the Dayton, Ohio region. He successfully developed the strategic plan for oncology for the entire system, and was responsible for the coordinated efforts of hospital, outpatient, and physician practice teams to implement a unified cancer program that served 3,800 analytic cases annually. Frank was accountable for 5% year-over-year volume growth, financial performance, and the marketing and branding of the oncology service line.
Frank began his tenure with Premier as an intern while in graduate school. He subsequently served in the system as an administrative fellow; as a project manager and director of facilities for the acquisition and integration of a 65-bed heart and vascular hospital; as a practice administrator for Good Samaritan Hospital’s largest general surgery practice; as the director of clinical services for the 139-bed Dayton Heart and Vascular Hospital at Good Samaritan; and as the vice president of operations for the 577-bed Good Samaritan Hospital.
Frank is originally from Indianapolis, Indiana. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Ohio University and a Master of Health Administration degree from Washington University in St. Louis, and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Frank and his wife are the parents of two young children, and are avid sports fans, attending football and baseball games as often as they can.
QLK’s Scott Sammon led the search to recruit Frank to St. Joseph Mercy, where his duties began on February 15, 2018.
