Michelle Adamolekun was placed as the chief human resources officer of New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, North Carolina. NHRMC is a public, not-for-profit teaching hospital and regional referral center that serves as the tertiary care center for a seven-county area. It is the ninth-largest healthcare system in the state, with 855 licensed beds, more than 7,400 employees, and 740 physicians. NHRMC’s programs and services are often recognized for the level of care they provide and the standards they set for similar programs across the state and country; the system includes one of ten trauma centers in the state certified at Level II or above, has received an “A” grade from The Leapfrog Group for its commitment to safety, and is the only hospital in the state to be listed on Forbes Magazine’s “America’s Best Employers” list. In this role, Michelle will serve as a member of the senior administrative team and will drive the strategic and operational leadership of the human resource function across the entire NHRMC organization, strategically aligning and managing sound and effective HR policies, programs, services, and initiatives within a culture of team effort.
Michelle comes to NHRMC from Ascension Health, the nation’s largest Catholic, non-profit health system. As a regional chief human resources officer, Michelle was responsible for three markets that encompassed 15 hospitals, more than 100 clinics, and over 23,000 employees. In this capacity, she co-led the transformational effort to create a regional clinically integrated system of care, developed and implemented cutting-edge corporate performance management and leadership development programs, and led employee satisfaction initiatives that significantly impacted turnover. Prior to her promotion to this role, Michelle was a director of human resources and talent acquisition within Ascension.
Michelle previously served in human resources roles with Motorola, FirstCare Health Plans, and APS Financial, and worked as a bond administrator on the New York Stock Exchange early in her career. She holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree in human resources management from Texas State University. Michelle has served on a number of community boards and is an active participant in professional organizations.
Michelle is originally from Jamaica, but came to New York at the age of 11. She and her husband are the parents of two grown children who are both professional international soccer players and college students; Michelle herself has competed internationally in track and field and was an alternate on the Olympic team.
Quick Leonard Kieffer’s Jake Barto and Jennifer Deniz led the search to recruit Michelle to NHRMC, where her duties will begin on November 4, 2019.
