Meghan Chaffee, JD, was placed as corporate legal counsel for the Nebraska Health Information Initiative (NeHII) in La Vista, Nebraska, a 501(c)3 non-profit health information exchange organization that joins healthcare providers, payers, and the State of Nebraska. Designated as the statewide integrator by the governor, NeHII works with the eHealth Council and the state HIT coordinator to facilitate Health Information Exchange initiatives throughout the state in order to improve patient outcomes and reduce healthcare costs. During the course of its existence, NeHII has connected more than 3.5 million patients, providers, and institutions; connected 70% of acute care in Nebraska; and provisioned access and provided training to over 10,000 clinicians. NeHII is certified as a Qualified Clinical Data Registry and as a Qualified Entity, and is the first HIE in the nation to pursue NCQA certification and achieve HEDIS measure certification.
Meghan comes to NeHII from the Nebraska Medical Association, where she served as legal counsel and vice president for advocacy and regulation. In this capacity, she represented and lobbied on behalf of Nebraska’s physicians to advocate for the health and safety of all Nebraskans, collaborating with state senators, legislative staff, state agency directors and staff, lobbyists, and healthcare coalitions to advance NMA’s legislative agenda.
Previously, Meghan served as an associate attorney in the workers’ compensation practice of law firm Baylor, Evnen, Curtiss, Grimit & Witt, LLP in Lincoln, Nebraska, and as legal counsel to the Business and Labor Committee of the Nebraska legislature, also in Lincoln. She began her career with the Nebraska Medical Association as a staff attorney after earning her Juris Doctor from the University of Nebraska College of Law. Meghan also holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and philosophy from Simpson College in Iowa.
