Daniel Gandarilla was placed as senior vice president and chief talent officer for Atrium Health (formerly Carolinas HealthCare System) in Charlotte, North Carolina. One of the nation’s most comprehensive public, not‐for‐profit health systems, Atrium has been serving the community since 1940 and has grown to encompass 50 hospitals representing nearly 7,400 licensed beds, as well as more than 900 care locations. Atrium is served by more than 69,800 teammates, more than 3,705 physicians, and more than 17,000 nurses, and is continually recognized both locally and nationally for its commitment to delivering efficient, quality care, earning distinctions from many top accrediting and ranking organizations, including recognition as a “Best Children’s Hospital” and “Best Nursing Home,” a “Health Care’s Most Wired” organization, and a “Best Employer.” In his role, Daniel will be responsible for developing and leading a highly effective, technologically advanced, and integrated learning, succession management, leadership, and organizational development strategy.
Daniel comes to Atrium from Texas Health Resources, where he served as vice president and chief learning officer for five years, with responsibility for centralized functions including leadership and management development, medical libraries, continuing education, clinical and business education, and other system‐ wide education and training initiatives. During his time at Texas Health, Daniel helped to embed a philosophy of continuous learning, change management, interprofessional collaboration, and developing leadership at all levels. His accomplishments include integrating action learning into development programs, creating competency‐based career pathways, expanding the talent review process and leadership development programs, achieving joint accreditation status through IPCE, and supporting the organization as it refined its culture including adding a high reliability focus, and adapting its performance management philosophy from annual ratings to ongoing coaching. During his time as CLO, Texas Health has been consistently ranked on the Forbes Best Places to Work list and Human Capital Media’s Learning Elite.
Previously, Daniel served as the director of talent and team development and as the manager of strategic organizational development at Texas Health Resources, and as the director of leadership and student activities at South San Francisco High School in California, where he began his career as a history teacher. He holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and political science and a master’s degree in education from Stanford University, as well as an MBA and is ABD for his EdD in educational leadership from Texas Christian University. Daniel is certified as a Six Sigma Green Belt, Certified Change Practitioner, and is a member of the National Society of Hispanic MBAs, The Association for Talent Development, and The Society for Human Resource Management.
Daniel and his wife are the parents of two young daughters. Outside of work, Daniel has enjoyed participating on the board of a local food bank and soccer organization, as well as serving as a youth soccer coach.
