QLK partnered with Northwest Community Healthcare (NCH) to facilitate the selection of a new chief medical officer (CMO). Serving Chicago’s northwest suburbs since 1959, NCH is a comprehensive, not-for-profit, patient-centered system of care with dozens of locations throughout the area, anchored by a 509-bed hospital in Arlington Heights, Illinois, and supported by immediate care centers, physician offices, outpatient imaging and occupational health sites, home health, a same-day outpatient surgery center, clinical laboratory sites, a health and fitness center, and inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services. NCH’s award-winning care has been recognized on a national level, including being named among America’s 250 Best Hospitals™ for four years in a row by Healthgrades® (2017–2020); maintaining consistent Magnet® designation for nursing excellence since 2006; and earning The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® and Comprehensive Stroke Center designation.
As the health system’s next CMO, Dr. Thomas Oryszczak will be responsible for relationships between the medical staff and the health system’s leadership, as well as medical staff relations with the community. He will work to improve the quality of care throughout NCH, ensure the conformance of the medical staff to its bylaws, and engage medical staff members in furthering the mission and strategic objectives of the organization. This position also includes accountability for physician recruitment, physician relations, and network development.
Dr. Oryszczak has been with NCH since completing his medical residency in 2011, with the exception of a two-year hiatus to join the multispecialty Northwestern Medicine Regional Medical Group as a hospitalist. Since 2016, he has served as the medical director of utilization management, overseeing care coordination and observation care metrics; in addition, he has taken on several other responsibilities over the past five years, including serving as vice chair of the Division of Internal Medicine, medical director for palliative care services, and Northwest Health Partners PHO inpatient medical director. His experience in value-based care and aligning physician incentives for quality were instrumental in his selection for the CMO role. Dr. Oryszczak also continues to see patients in his part-time work as a hospitalist at NCH.
Originally from Palatine, Illinois, Dr. Oryszczak was a volunteer at NCH while in high school, transporting patients to and from the Emergency Department. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Illinois, and a medical degree from the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed his internal medicine residency at Loyola University Medical Center.
Dr. Oryszczak and his wife are the parents of three young daughters. Outside of work, Dr. Oryszczak enjoys fishing with his daughters in the lakes near their home and playing the guitar.
