Carlos Alberto, III, was placed as assistant vice president of provider recruitment for Guthrie Medical Group, a multi-specialty group practice of more than 330 physicians and 265 advanced practice providers providing more than one million patient visits each year. Headquartered adjacent to Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania, the regional office network encompasses 47 specialty and primary sites in 22 communities throughout Pennsylvania and New York. In his role, Carlos will design and implement strategic, data-driven plans and an integrated approach to the recruitment, marketing, onboarding, and retention of providers, supporting the success of the organization and contributing to its growth.
Carlos comes to Guthrie from Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare in Memphis, where he served as senior director of provider contracting and recruitment. In this capacity, he optimized the recruiting function to increase the organization’s ability to sustain itself, and recruited 75 providers in less than 18 months. He also focused on improving credentialing, onboarding, and retention, supported by relationship development, executive training, and the implementation of metrics.
Carlos holds a bachelor’s degree in microbiology from SUNY Plattsburgh, and began his healthcare career as a microbiology technologist at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg, New York. He subsequently joined Canton-Potsdam Hospital in Potsdam, New York, as an assistant administrative laboratory director, and remained with that organization as it subsequently grew to become St. Lawrence Health System. Carlos first moved into a physician recruitment role in 2005, and ultimately became assistant vice president for provider talent acquisition and project development, and interim vice president of physician practice management.
Carlos holds an MBA from Clarkson University and a healthcare leadership certificate from Cornell University. He and his wife are the parents of two grown children.
QLK’s Kathy Hall and Nick Rogish led the search to recruit Carlos to Guthrie, where his duties will begin on February 13, 2023.
