Andrew Zukowski was placed as chief financial officer at ECU Health, a clinically integrated, rural, academic healthcare organization in Greenville, North Carolina, that was created on January 1, 2022, with the alignment of Vidant Health and East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine. ECU Health’s system of care includes 1,708 beds across an academic medical center with two campuses, seven community hospitals, and numerous outpatient facilities, home health, hospice, and wellness centers; the system also includes a multi-specialty physician and provider group that offers access to more than 500 providers in 100+ practice locations. In his role, Andy will have the opportunity to recreate, reimagine, and realign financial structure, systems, operations, and processes to create highly effective operational, financial, and system structures that enable the new enterprise to achieve its short- and long-term financial objectives and continue to meet its patient care mission for the region.
Andy comes to ECU Health from UNC REX Healthcare in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he served as chief financial officer for six years. In this capacity, he transformed the finance organization from budget-focused to strategic, educating and building up the operations and finance teams to enable the health system to double in revenue. He co-led a number of complex joint ventures with physicians, and developed a strategic financial plan and the structure for an integrated network with physicians that supported the organization’s value-based journey. As a result of Andy’s efforts, REX was able to increase its covered lives over 13-fold during his tenure.
Previously, Andy served as associate chief financial officer for University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers, controller for Saint Joseph Mercy Health System, and senior accountant for Mercy Memorial Hospital Corporation, all in southeast Michigan. He began his career as an accountant at Weber & O’Brien Ltd. in Toledo, Ohio.
Andy holds a bachelor’s degree in business with a major in accounting from University of Toledo, and an MBA from Eastern Michigan University. Originally from rural southeastern Michigan, Andy and his wife are the parents of two teenage children. Outside of work, Andy enjoys traveling, staying fit, and spending time outdoors hiking and biking.
QLK’s Kathy Hall and Nick Rogish led the search to recruit Andy to ECU Health, where his duties will begin on November 28, 2022.
