Craig Behm was placed as president and chief executive officer of The Chesapeake Regional Information System for our Patients (CRISP) and CRISP Shared Services. CRISP is one of the nation’s leading Health Information Exchanges, and the state-designated Health Information Exchange for Maryland – a non-profit organization that facilitates the efficient and safe electronic transfer of clinical information between disparate health information systems. CRISP is the founding member of CRISP Shared Services, a non-profit supporting organization of CRISP, governed by its members, which currently include CRISP DC, West Virginia Health Information Network, and healtheConnect, the health information exchange in Alaska. In his role, Craig will steward and grow the mission and impact of both organizations, executing on their strategic plan and annual goals and objectives, and ensuring strong financial oversight and high-quality operations and services. He will also foster collaboration among CRISP and CSS member HIEs, while preserving and advocating for the mission, vision, and values of both CRISP and CSS at the local and national levels.
Craig joined CRISP in 2015 as the program manager for reporting services, afterward progressing through the roles of director of hospital services, senior director of marketing and product development, and then executive director, assuming that terminal role at the start of 2019. As executive director, Craig was responsible for the operations, funding, and stakeholder engagement of the Maryland Health Information Exchange, as well as for government affairs, the onboarding of new members, provider relations, and population health. He successfully grew revenue and diversified revenue streams, grew service utilization, and demonstrated high achievement of difficult objectives during his tenure.
After earning his bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Maryland, Craig began his career in operations with Erickson Living, a retirement community in Baltimore. He subsequently served as the executive director of network services for the Maryland State Medical Society, and as a director with Audacious Inquiry, a health information technology consultancy; while in the latter role, he began contributing to the team at CRISP.
Craig holds an MBA from Loyola University Maryland, and is a Health Information Exchange, population health, and accountable care subject matter expert across numerous forums, events, and publications. He and his wife are the parents of two young daughters.
QLK’s Steve Lieber and Shay Owens led the search to place Craig as president and CEO of CRISP, a role he assumed on September 16, 2022.
