David Bruce was placed as the chief financial officer of Erie Family Health Center in Chicago. Erie’s community-based healthcare centers deliver high-quality, culturally-sensitive, bilingual health care to more than 53,000 medical patients and 9,500 dental patients, regardless of their ability to pay. Erie serves patients through 13 sites, including seven large primary care facilities (four with integrated, on-site dental care), five school-based health centers, and the only freestanding comprehensive teen health provider in Chicagoland.
David is a results-oriented CFO with extensive experience in directing and operating U.S. and global businesses through periods of growth, change, and crisis. He brings to the position demonstrated success in creating and growing successful start-up businesses, and in facilitating mergers and acquisitions, improving operating results as well as performing complex analyses. He is adept at building and mentoring high-performance teams and forging strong, collaborative relationships with executive team partners.
Before joining Erie, David served as the chief financial officer of Midwest Palliative Hospice CareCenter in Glenview, Illinois. In this capacity, he led teams responsible for finance, purchasing, facilities, information technology, and contracting as member of executive leadership for the $32 million hospice and physician practice. David successfully drove an appeal to the denial of a property tax exemption, resulting in the recovery of over $1 million in tax payments, and improved cash by $4 million through a focus on growth, leveraging costs, and increasing philanthropy. He also led the analysis and due diligence process for a hospice acquisition and merger, oversaw a technology infrastructure expansion to improve network performance and security, and drove the development of hospice and medical practice performance metrics. Additionally, David assumed a leadership role within the National Hospice Work Group CFO Forum.
Previously, David served as the vice president and controller of Journal Broadcast Group in Milwaukee, and in a number of progressively-responsible finance positions for the renal business of Baxter International, beginning in the company’s financial development program and culminating in the role of director of finance and operations.
David earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from Indiana University and his MBA from the University of Chicago. He is a certified public accountant in the State of Illinois.
