Moody Chisholm was placed as president of the South Chicagoland Patient Service Area (PSA) of Advocate Aurora Health, and president of Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Illinois. Advocate Aurora, a system of 26 hospitals, more than 500 outpatient locations, 8,300 doctors, 22,000 nurses, and 74,000 team members, serves three million unique patients. One of the top ten health systems in the country, it is recognized for clinical excellence in a number of areas and as one of Modern Healthcare’s “Best Places to Work,” and its hospitals are named among Watson Health’s “100 Top Hospitals.” The South Chicagoland PSA is the third-largest market within Advocate Aurora Health, comprising three hospitals and over 40 sites of care. Advocate Christ Medical Center, the largest of the system’s hospitals in the state of Illinois, is an 802-bed teaching hospital with more than 1,700 affiliated physicians in 95 specialties, and more than 2,300 nurses. It is a major referral hospital in the Midwest for several specialties, and has one of the busiest Level I trauma centers in Illinois.
In his role, Moody will provide strategic direction for all business lines and acute and ambulatory operations of the South Chicagoland PSA, with accountability for its overall performance, including safety, service, profit and loss, operating income targets, service and program integration, and growth. He will drive performance excellence related to system-wide organizational goals and objectives, including quality, patient satisfaction, and patient, team member, and physician engagement.
Moody comes to Advocate Aurora from UT Health East Texas, where he served as chief executive officer, recruited to lead the new ten-hospital partnership between UT and Ardent, and to turn around significant financial losses. Moody developed a strategic agenda to improve financial performance, culturally connecting the community health system with the state university, expanding academic programs, and reversing failing quality metrics; he also steered all inaugural governance activities for the new system, including establishing new boards for each of the hospitals. Moody brought together two competitive health systems and three disparate physician stakeholder groups, developing a “one-system” strategic focus that was successful in transforming the organization into an integrated entity that was then able to drive volume, market share, and profitability. Moody led the health system to earn recognition from the Texas Hospital Association as a quality award winner for 2020, turned around the health system’s finances, significantly reduced serious safety events, improved employee engagement, and more than doubled the number of residents, adding several programs and earning legislative approval for a new medical school.
Previously, Moody served as CEO of Intermountain Healthcare’s largest division in Utah; of St. Vincent’s Healthcare System in Jacksonville, Florida; of Manatee Health System in Bradenton, Florida; and of Northwest Texas Healthcare System in Amarillo. He began his career in financial and operational roles within a variety of hospitals in the Southeast. Moody holds bachelor’s degrees in business and economics from Appalachian State University, and an MBA from Nova Southeastern University. Originally from Florida, he is the father of two teenage children.
Roger Quick, Gwen MacKenzie, and Mike Quick led the search to recruit Moody to Advocate Aurora Health, where his duties will begin on July 5, 2022.
